Obituary

Carl J. Marshall, 89, of Hale Center, passed away on November 26, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Taylor Smith and Rob Lindley officiating. Interment with Masonic graveside services will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Carl was born on March 31, 1933 in Haskell County, Texas to Guy C. & Annie Jones Marshall. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bobbie Stephens Marshall, and a son, Carl Stephen (Steve) Marshall.

He was a 1950 graduate of Weinert High School and went on to attend Texas A&M University until the spring of 1952. On July 25, 1952 he married Bobbie Stephens. They moved to the Hale Center area in January 1954. Carl served in the United States Army beginning in 1954 where he earned the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning home he continued to farm and raise his children, Steve and Melody alongside Bobbie. They were active members of First Baptist Church in Hale Center, where they taught youth Sunday School classes together for several years. They were also active 4-H Club leaders and traveled statewide showing steers and heifers. Carl served on the Hale County Stock Show board and was the Steer Superintendent for several years. Carl and Bobbie also owned and operated “The Flower Basket” in Hale Center for 28 years. Carl was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge and served as District Deputy Grand Master in 2018. He was highly involved in Lodge activities and received the Golden Trowel Award in 2020. He also served as President of Hale Center Senior Citizens Center and was on the Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum board.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Melody Campbell & husband Kenny of Hale Center, Texas; one grandson, Jason Campbell & wife Amanda of Abernathy, Texas; one granddaughter, Michelle Burrus & Trapper of Lubbock, Texas and eight great grandchildren, Brenna, Stetson, Coltyn, Reilly, Jayden, Kendi, Quaid and Ellie.

The family suggests memorials to the Hale Center Cemetery.
