Obituary

Mary Ann Cozart, 87, of Hale Center, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Dr. Kris Knippa officiating. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. A family visitation and viewing will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Hale Center.

Mary Ann was born December 21, 1933, in Flomot, Texas, to Elmer and Banksie (King) Smith. She moved to Hale Center in 1949 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. On December 22, 1951, in Clovis, New Mexico, Mary married Herman Cozart and they were married close to 70 years. After over 20 years of being out of school, Mary graduated with her GED from Abernathy High School in 1970. She became an LVN and worked at Hi Plains Hospital and Nursing Home in Hale Center from 1970 to 2003. Mary loved being a nurse and she was very caring and patient with those in her care. A volunteer at her children's schools and activities, she loved to bake, sew, and read. She was a member of the Hale Center Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in Woodmen of the World. Known as the original baby whisperer, Mary had a way with children and was a loving wife, mother, and Mimi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and five sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Herman Cozart of Hale Center, her son, Ronald Cozart of Hale Center, two daughters, Sandra Cozart-Williams and her husband Randy of Amarillo and Darwina Gobin and her husband Truitt of Amarillo. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
