Obituary
Reynaldo "Roy" Mendez, 76, of Hale Center, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at his home in Hale Center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Hale Center Cemetery, with Fr. Jacob Powell officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2021, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Hale Center. For the safety of the family and the public in general, masks and social distancing will be required at the funeral home.
Reynaldo was born February 10, 1945, in Falfurrias, Texas, to Prudencio and Eloisa (Sanchez) Mendez. Roy lived in the Hale Center area most of his life and was a Catholic. A talented musician, Roy enjoyed playing the guitar, the accordion, and could sing beautifully. He had a kind spirit and was easy to get along with. Roy loved his family, adored his parents, and was most happy when the family could all get together. Roy spent many warm days sitting on his porch visiting with family, especially with his sister Lidia and brother-in-law Tony.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Prudenico and Eloisa Mendez, two sons, John Mendez and Leo Mendez, a daughter, Emily Mendez, and a brother, Martin Mendez.
Survivors include his son, Roy Mendez of Sunnyside, WA, two daughters, Cindy Mendez of California and Sally Mendez of Ohio, five brothers, Erasmo Mendez of Lubbock, Osvaldo Mendez of Abilene, Prudencio Mendez, Jr. and his wife Anita of Levelland, Johnny Mendez of Yakima, WA, and Mario Mendez of Hale Center, and two sisters, Marianna Navarro of Sunnyside, WA and Lidia Valdivia and her husband Antonio of Hale Center. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
