Obituary

Mickey Lee McElroy, 69, of Amarillo and formerly of Cotton Center, died Saturday, January 23, 2021, in Plainview. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Center Plains Cemetery, in Cotton Center, under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors of Hale Center.

Mickey was born June 7, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas, to Yerby and Sylvia (White) McElroy. Mickey served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1974. After the service, he moved to Dallas and was a professional painter. Mickey was a Christian and was saved in the spring of 2000. He was baptized into Christ on January 12, 2017, at the VA Community Living Center in Amarillo. Playing baseball and attending baseball camps were his favorite activities as a child. He loved sports, especially the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. Mickey also enjoyed watching old western movies and fishing at the lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Yerby and Sylvia McElroy, his paternal grandmother, Volena Ann McElroy, and maternal grandparents, Etherage and Helen Ponder White.

Survivors include two daughters, Stacy James of Plainview and Tangy McElroy of Dallas, and a sister, Keita Jones and her husband Keith of Hale Center. He was blessed with two nieces, Marci Wynn and husband Brandon of Driftwood and Kari Trevino and husband Stephen of Kerrville, one great-nephew, Jordan Johnson, and three great-nieces, Calle Wynn, Cady Wynn, and Haley Johnson.

The family would like to thank High Plains Senior Care Hospice of Amarillo for the great care they gave to Mickey and his friend, Tammy, for being such a sweet friend to Mickey.
