Obituary
Ira Boones, 81, of Hale Center, died Wednesday, April 15, 2020, in Hale Center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Hale Center Cemetery, with Brother Terry Wright officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The graveside service will be broadcast on FM 102.9 if anyone attending the service wishes to sit in their vehicle and tune in. A visitation with ten people or less will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, April 20, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Hale Center.
Ira Charles was born September 24, 1938, in Honey Grove, Texas. On October 14, 1961, Ira married Helen Ruth Jones. A member of Jerusalem Community Baptist Church, Ira enjoyed playing the guitar and fishing. He was a talented mechanic and had a funny sense of humor. Ira could preach and teach and quote scripture like no other. He was a former pastor at Lone Star Baptist Church in Hale Center, Bethlehem Church in Lubbock, Jackson Chapel in Tulia, and Friendship Holy Baptist Church in Hale Center, and several others. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ruth Boones, on February 27, 2020, his mother, Lenora Poindexter, and three sisters, Jean Johnson, Mary Louise Shafer, and Story Jo Hopkins.
Survivors include his sons, Aaron Boones of Hale Center, James Boones of Abilene, David Boones of Florida, and Isaiah Boones of Iowa Park, his daughter, Helen Douglas of Charlotte, NC, his brother, Ira Joe Poindexter of San Diego, CA and a sister, Nona Johnson of Hale Center. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
