Obituary
Laura Belle was born March 27, 1924, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Ralph and Vera Maggard. In 1931 the family moved to Lockney, Texas where she grew up and graduated from high school. On June 15, 1942, she married J.M. (Skeet) Carter. They moved to California for two years where Skeet worked in an airplane factory during the war. They moved back to the family farm in the Claytonville Community where they raised their two children. Skeet preceded her in death in 1988. Laura then married J.L. Schooler in 1994. He preceded her in death in 2007. Laura moved to Plainview and lived several years before moving to the Runningwater Draw Care Center in 2021.
Laura enjoyed a good, long, happy life. She enjoyed being a mother, aunt, and being a “Social Butterfly.” She was a member of Plainview Eastern Star and square dance clubs. She loved cooking, making candy, playing bingo and Skip-bo.
Laura Belle is survived by: a son, Larry Carter of Claytonville, a daughter, Jan Wise of Corsicana, grandson, Jhara Carter and Charlene of Aurora, Colorado, granddaughter, Shanna Wise-Walden and Kevin of Summerfield, North Carolina and one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
