Private family services and burial in the Abernathy Cemetery will be held for Margaret Ann (Griffin) Herron, 73, of New Deal, TX. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Margaret Ann (Griffin) Herron was born February 18, 1947 in Ft. Stockton, TX to Berlie and Donnie (Harris) Griffin. She married Sammy Fielden Herron March 19, 1965 in Roswell, NM and graduated from Roswell High School later that year. They moved to New Deal in 1979 from Lubbock, TX. She attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in 1985, and began teaching elementary for Lubbock ISD the following year. Ann was nominated by her students, and selected for Who's Who among educators. She taught math at O. L. Slaton Middle School, and began the Math Club for Girls. She retired from O. L. Slaton in December of 2007. Ann was a member of the Texas Tech Alumni Assoc., the New Deal Booster Club and was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved riding motorcycles with her husband, Sam, loved gardening, sewing and listening to christian music. Ann loved to cook, always had something ready to eat and the Herron's never locked their home, in case someone might need a place to stay.
She was preceded in death by her father, Berlie Griffin, husband Sam Herron, August 16, 2013, and son, Robert Herron June 16, 2016.
She is survived by her Mother, Donnie (Harris) Griffin of Hobbs, NM, 2 children, Amy Pharr and husband Paul, and Tommy Herron and wife Melody all of New Deal, daughter-in-law, Angela Herron of Scott AFB, IL, 9 grandchildren, Samantha Herron Reynolds and husband Josh, Ashley Herron, Jessica Herron Chrisman and husband Zac, Jordan Pharr Horton and husband James, Garrett Pharr and wife Paige, Zach Herron, Taylor Herron, Bryce Herron and Trevor Clay, and 2 brothers, James Griffin and wife Carolyn of Hobbs, NM and Larry Griffin and wife Shelby of Roswell, NM.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Church of Christ, 916 Ave. E, Abernathy, TX 79311.
