A Visitation at Bartley Funeral Home will be held Friday August 19 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Halfway Cemetery at 9:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life Service at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview on Saturday, August 20 at 11:00 am.
Doris is preceded in death by Henry, her husband of 56 years, her sisters Frances and Irene, and her parents.
Doris is survived by her children, Steven and his wife Barbara of Kingwood and family; Kenneth and his wife Athena of Plainview and family; David and his wife Priscilla of Halfway and family; and Marie Nelson of Gilmer and family. Doris’ 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren brought her much joy.
Doris was born to August and Esther Wukasch on September 23, 1931 in Austin, Texas. She attended St. Paul Lutheran school, helped in her family’s restaurant, and always loved to sing in the choir. Henry and Doris met in the early 50’s when Doris moved to Plainview from Austin to teach at Plainview’s first kindergarten at the Lutheran church where her brother-in-law served as pastor.
Doris and Henry raised their children on the Hooper farm in Halfway. Her kitchen was always a welcome place with home cooked meals, prayers and laughter, and bounty from her garden. She served on the Bethesda Board of Directors in Plainview, LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), and after raising her children, served as a teacher’s aide for special education students at Plainview High School.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund. 901 Oakland, Plainview, Texas 79072.
