Obituary

Elmer Ray Bennett, 93, of Plainview, departed this earthly world on July 8, 2022, and entered heaven’s gates. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Bartley Memorial Chapel with Robert Malcom officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Bartley Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 6 – 8 p.m.

Elmer Ray Bennett was born on January 4, 1929, to Sam and Velma (Lundy) Bennett in Liberty Hill, Texas. Elmer grew up in the Austin area as he traveled back and forth between Austin, Texas and Morton Texas during his childhood. He was inducted into the US Army in Taylor, TX. He spent half of his time during his service in the Army and the other half in the Air Force. He was stationed in Germany and served his country in the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. In 1960, Elmer moved to Plainview, Texas where he would eventually raise his family. He married Betty Presley, in 1964 in Plainview. He worked as a truck driver, millwright, welder, and in 1992 he retired from his working career at Cargill Grain. He was a very hard-working man and was a constant source of support for his family.

Elmer enjoyed his time at the casinos, fishing, and guns. He also really got a kick on working the cars and taking the motor out just to see how it worked. Elmer loved music and especially loved to sing and dance to it.

Mr.Bennett was a very loved man. Not just by his own family but by his bonus families as well. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend.

Those left to cherish his memory is his children; Gary Bennett and wife, Bobbie, of Lockney, TX, Larry Bennett and wife, Laura, of Quinlan, TX, Donna Clark and husband, Wayne, of Catoosa, OK, and Janie Sewell and husband, George, of Plainview, TX, a brother; Don Bennett and wife, Dorothy, of Pryor, OK, grandchildren; Charlene Mataia, Jennifer Bennett, Nickie Bennett, Lori Bennett, Corey Mannin, Jolanda Nall, Heath Baker, Christopher Keen, Dennis Smith, and Cheyenne Sewell. Elmer was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, the Saenz Family, and the Alcozer family

Elmer is preceded in death by his parents; Sam and Velma (Lundy) Bennett, his siblings; Elton Bennett, Judy Sexton, Dorothy Bennett, and Bennie Bennett, and two grandchildren; Jodie Bennett and Tessa Sewell.
