Obituary

Catalina Fierro, 93, of Plainview, passed away and entered heaven’s gates on June 15, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022, at New Creation in Christ. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park.

Catalina was born on May 20, 1929, in Colonia Esperanza, Mexico, to Eulogio and Cruz (Montanez) Alvarez. During her time growing up in Mexico she attended school and helped her father work on their family farm. She married Maclovio “Mac" Fierro on August 30, 1947 in Mexico.

Catalina was a long-time member of Mission Bautista El Calvario in Kress, Texas where she was the song director for many years. She was also the lead singer of the Familia Fierro Gospel Group. Having her kids accompany her while singing was very special to her. Volleyball, softball and bowling were some of the sports she loved to play. She was a huge baseball fan but was known to switch teams depending on who was winning. Catalina also enjoyed crocheting and making jewelry. A wonderful sense of humor, goofy, and playful are only some of the ways to describe Catalina. Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and dear friend who will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children; Richard Fierro and wife, Esmeralda, of Amarillo, Cruz F. Garcia “Bobby” of Plainview, Nancy Hernandez and husband, Edward of Plainview, Soila Fierro of Plainview, and Jackie Andrus and husband, Craig, of Kress. Catalina was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Catalina is preceded in death by her husband Maclovio “Mac” Fierro, along with her parents Eulogio and Cruz (Montanez) Alvarez, and 5 brothers and a sister.
