Obituary

Rocky Blaine Mangum, 77, an avid car enthusiast, departed his earthly home and entered heavens gates on August 30, 2021. All are welcome for a visitation to take place at Bartley Funeral Home on Friday, September 3, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be celebrated at Bartley Memorial Chapel on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 2 p.m with Kyle Brock officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park.

Rocky was born to Paul and Viola Mangum in Lockney, Texas where he was raised and attended school. He married Judy Ray in October of 1962 and in that union, they had two children: Mark and Anjella. Judy passed away in March of 1995. He married Mary Katherine (M.K.) Wheeler Boedeker in February of 1996 in Quitaque, Texas.

Rocky started his working career working at Ford during the late 60’s. He then started his own mechanic business, Mangum Automotive. He started driving trucks for Cargill in Aiken, Texas until 1987. After Cargill he started working for Walmart as Walmart Dispatch for 22 years up until his retirement in 2009.

Rocky and M.K. own 410 Customs where he enjoyed working on anything and everything, especially his own special projects. In his earlier years he would race his “Misty Blue” pickup truck. Rocky was a member of the Good Guys Car Club, Cool Arrow Car Club, Elks Lodge, and the NRA.

You could find Rocky at the Nu-Griddle having his plate lunch with his buds. He enjoyed the company of his loved ones and friends. He loved the gatherings in the shop behind his house. Rocky lived life by his own rules. He was the patriarch of his family. The go to person. He will be remembered for his loyalty to his family and friends, as a loving father and spousal unit, and a weird sense of humor. He was a force to be reckon with.

Those left to cherish the memories of Rocky are his daughter; Anjella Blair of Jarrell, Texas, his spousal unit; Mary Katherine (M.K.) Wheeler Boedeker Mangum of Plainview, Texas, a sister; Tara Smith of Lubbock, Texas, granddaughters; Tabitha McRae and husband, William of Manor, Texas and Danielle Blair of Austin, Texas. Rocky also had 5 great-grandchildren; Hayden, Madison, Kambria, Abigail, Savannah. Tucker and Maggie, his Havanese pups, were his constant companions at home whom he adored.

Rocky is preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Viola Mangum, his wife; Judy Ray Mangum, a son; Mark Mangum, a sister; Ruth Mangum Burleson Sautter, and his father-in-law whom he forged a special bond with; J.B. Wheeler.

A special thanks to the Lubbock Heart Hospital and Rocky’s dedicated doctors who cared for him during his final weeks. We will be forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Paws Pet Adoption in Plainview, Texas.
