Obituary

John Ester Ervine, 77 of Plainview, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Viewing for Mr. Ervine will be on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 12:00pm until 5:00pm, with a Wake beginning at 5:00pm at Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Homegoing Celebration will be at 11:00am, Saturday, June 10, 2023, at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

John was born October 5, 1945, in Hamlin, Texas to the late Katherine Warren Ervine Sparks and Ivy Joe Ervine. John grew up in Hamlin where he graduated from high school at Oscar DePriest School. He accepted Christ at Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was baptized at an early age and served faithfully until relocating.

John joined the United States Army after high school however, he only served a short stint in the Army. He returned to Hamlin then migrated to Plainview, Texas following one of his sisters, Mary Ellis. There he met and married the first love of his life, Allene Nails. To that union there were six (6) children born. As life went on, John and Allene later divorced. John fathered a total of fifteen (15) children, four (4) of which are with his late wife Jacqulyn Davis. John and Jacqulyn were happily married for many years, until her untimely death.

John was a construction worker and worked many jobs of that kind. His most recent job was driving for Reagor Dykes Auto Group. He loved driving vehicles from city to city. He was a jolly fun-loving guy and often the life of the party. In his presence you were guaranteed a good laugh. He was a strong God-fearing man and true believer of God’s Word.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Jodie Ervine, wife, Jacqulyn, son, John LaVent, sister, Norma Hooper Williams, brothers, Joe Samuel, Sr., Arthur VanZandt, Sr., and Ike VanZandt, one grandchild, and two great great-grandchildren.

John leaves to mourn his homegoing fifteen children, forty-six grandchildren, forty-nine great grand-children and four great great-grandchildren. His children: Jacqueline Sirles (Leon) of Amarillo, TX; Michelle White (Ricky) of Tulia, TX; Pam Jackson of Denton, TX; Synora Ervine, Daron Ervine (Twyla), LaDonna Heads, and Shaneara Hill, all of Plainview, TX; Shuntie Davis of Ft Worth, TX; Justin Earl Davis (Kendra) of Lockney, TX; Jonetta Ervine of Abilene, TX; Fayedra Daniels of San Antonio, TX, Blakey Jackson of Houston, TX; Audbrianna Carr (Nicholas) of Amarillo, TX; and Destiny Wallace of Lubbock, TX. Sisters: Mary Ellis of Plainview, TX; Alice Ervine of Mansfield, TX, and James (Bo) (Renea) Ervine of Abilene, TX and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
