Obituary

Norvene H. Owen, 87, of Plainview, Texas went home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Norvene was born on October 17th, 1935, to Clyde and Lorene Hyder in Winters, Texas. She graduated from Hale Center High School in 1953 and attended Wayland Baptist University.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday the 10th of February at Kornerstone Funeral Home, Plainview, Texas. Graveside services will be the following afternoon at 3:00 pm in Plainview Memorial Park, with Pastor Joe Barrera officiating.

Norvene married Joseph (Jake) C. Owen, Jr. on November 1st, 1953, in Mayfield, Texas. They moved to Midland, Texas, and this is where she began her 54-year banking career. Moving to Plainview in 1965, Norvene worked at Hale County State Bank, here is where she grew to love and care for the people of this city. Norvene retired in 2010 as a Senior Vice President. She was on the Board of Directors and Executive Assistant to the President of the Texas Bankers Association. Norvene was a proud and intricate part in Pete Laney's career as Texas Speaker of the House.

Norvene's community involvement included serving on the advisory board of RSVP, Plainview Planning and Zoning Board, Crime Stopper's Board, a Soroptimist Charter Member, Plainview Area United Way, as well as an Intercessory Prayer Committee member at First United Methodist Church, Lubbock, Texas. She served on the board of the Crisis Center of the Plains, Rainbow Room, and National Association of Banking Women. One of her more treasured honors was being named Plainview's 2016 Woman of the Year. Norvene was a Hospice Volunteer assigned to a family throughout the year after a loved one passes on to assist with all the firsts' - first birthday, first Christmas, first anniversary, etc.

Loved ones left behind with cherished memories include a son, Steven C. Owen (wife Bobbye Owen), daughter Kim O. Voss, and daughter Kathy O. Branch (husband Gary Branch). Grandchildren include Misty Perryman, Joseph C Owen, III, Kristan Krause, Jamie Teague, Poet Collier, Skyler Voss, Creighton Branch, Adilyn Voss, and Cagan Branch, and a bundle of loved great-grandchildren, fourteen in all. Also, Norvene leaves behind an adored sister, Rita Glasscock. Oh, how we will miss her.

Norvene is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lorene Hyder, her husband, Joseph (Jake) C. Owen, Jr., as well as two brothers, Garth Hyder and Melvin Hyder.

The family would like to express their gratitude for James and Ruby Walzier for ensuring Norvene lived life to its fullest. And to ALL her friends, and anyone she ever met, you were instantly a part of her family and she never let you go. She loved you. Mom showed us how to be devoted to family, how to love everyone unconditionally, and to always give to others beyond what anyone could understand
